Kovohutě Příbram

We have heard the word "environment" many times in the last years. Investors, builders, industrial companies are afraid of it. However, if we adopt the environmental approach in a reasonable way, first it will help the surrounding environment, it will bring admiration and kind approach of state authorities, cost cutting and last but not least better position on the European market.

Kovohutě Příbram nástupnická, a. s. has done a lot of work in this area mainly in the last few years and so the company can enjoy the results. During the last 30 years the emissions decreased a lot, e.g. the lead emissions decreased 300-500 times, SO₂ emisions decreased 30 times. Environmentally friendly technologies often based on foreign know-how.

Have been and are being built. The example is a VARTA blast furnace than enables us to process the whole batteries; oxygen refining that saves energy and chemicals and eliminates the production of caustification sludge with remarkable arsenic content; a PAQUES neutralization plant that removes waste water together with battery acid; heating decentralization and the change of non-environmental coal and oil heating for gas heating; the construction of waste water treatment plants that have a considerable impact on the cleanliness of the Litavka river.

In the mid 1990s waste water was released into the river polluted with lead and cadmium 10-30 times more than today. These days some of the values are deep under the pollution limits. However, nothing is for free and things do not come from nothing. Thanks to the reasonable environmental thinking of the company management the environment is a priority and a permanent goal in the future. Over the last 5 years the environmental costs have made about 60 % of the total investments of the company.

Decree about the issue of the integrated permission including its amendments

According to § 17 of the Law 76/2002 of Coll. about the integrated prevention the rights and liabilities of the previous company Kovohutě Příbram, a. s. IN: 463 57 149, TIN: CZ463 57 149 are passing on its legal representative, i.e. the company Kovohutě Příbram nástupnická, a. s. IN: 271 18 100, TIN: CZ 271 18 100, and they are binding upon it. The legal representative advised this amendment to the Region Authority of the Central Bohemia in the due lawful term from the effective day for the transfer and passing of the rights and liabilities.

International Clean Production Declaration

On the 28th April 2002 the Kovohutě Příbram company signed the UNEP International Clean Production Declaration and committed itself:

• to accept that reaching a sustainable growth is a common responsibility. The activities oriented to global environment protection must include the adoption of improved procedures concerning the sustainable production and consumption.
• to believe that the preferable solution is a clean production and other prevention strategies such as environmental efficiency, environmental productivity and pollution prevention. They require the development, support and implementation of corresponding measures.
• By "a clean production" we mean the permanent use of a comprehensive prevention strategy that is applied to processes, products and services used to achieve economic, social, environmental, and health and safety benefits.

Health, Safety and Environment Award

The Kovohutě Příbram nástupnická, a.s. company won with its project of "Modernization of used car batteries recycling technology" the 7th prestigious "Health and Safe Environment Award" competition which is organized by the international association of The Business Leaders Forum in close cooperation with a global institution of The Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum. The Award shall be granted to such organisation that can prove the best measurable contribution to the improvement of the local natural or work environment or health either of its employees or local inhabitants, or any other improvement that contributes to the global environment improvement.
